Mini-LIPS

Workshop Coordinator – Karrie Berglund

Description
The Live Interactive Planetarium Symposium (LIPS) is an annual, multi-day event centered on anything and everything to do with live, interactive planetarium programs. It doesn’t matter whether you teach in a portable or fixed dome, with a digital system or a starball; if you do live, interactive programs (or want to start), LIPS is for you! Mini-LIPS is meant to give you a taste of what happens at a full LIPS.

Past LIPS sessions have focused on connecting with your audience; enhancing performance skills; classroom management techniques; sample activities; etc. All LIPS attendees participate in all sessions together, creating a unique sense of cohesion and community. The Mini-LIPS has an attendance cap of 60 people.

If you’d like to provide an activity to share, please contact Karrie Berglund – karrie@digitaliseducation.com

Transport your visitors through the Cosmos with OpenSpace. Follow the footsteps of the Apollo astronauts. Ride along with JWST. Reach the limits of the observable Universe. It’s all possible and freely available with the NASA-funded open-source software called OpenSpace. In this one-day workshop, you will learn how to install the software on your laptop, use menus and external devices to navigate, design compelling stories for your unique audiences and set programming goals. During the second half of the workshop, you will use what you’ve learned to create and present in OpenSpace in collaboration with other participants.

Funded as part of NASA Science Mission Directorates Science Activation Collective (SciAct), a growing number of informal science institutions are using OpenSpace to present complex data visualizations in clear, dynamic and engaging ways.
