The Southeastern Planetarium Association is proud to produce the planetarium show, “The Planets.” It’s an exciting tour of the Solar System that looks at each planet as well as Solar System formation and extra-solar planets. It was written by Jon Bell, narrated by Kate Mulgrew (of Star Trek: Voyager), music by Jonn Serrie, and animations by Allen Davis. Make sure you check out the sample images from the show.

The 36 minute show includes both a Spring and a Fall star-I.D. where constellations and the locations of extra-solar planets are pointed out. The content provided is designed for a slide-based theater. There are also Spring and Fall versions for portable domes where a presenter may only have a single image source such as a small data projector. These latter versions have most of the visual assets combined into a single video asset. You can modify the show by adding or subtracting images or effects to meet your theater’s needs. In the near future, there will also be a full-dome version made from the original assets. Once completed, the planetarium community will be notified.

The show includes many digital extras. Such as:

You may be wondering how you can get this show for your facility. It’s simple. If you are a current SEPA member, you can get the program free. Just contact Mickey Jo Sorrell, SEPA Secretary/Treasurer, for the program. There is a limit of one per facility/organization. Also, you must sign and mail in the original license before you can receive the show packet. The show will then be sent to you. If you are not a current SEPA member, then under this special time period ending December 31, 2007, you can join SEPA and get the show free. Starting January 1, 2008, any planetarian can get the show for $50 for their facility.

This is SEPA’s way of providing a valuable resource for planetarians. We hope you enjoy the show as well as use it for years to come.

Thank you,

SEPA Council
