On August 21, 2017, The Great American Total Solar Eclipse will be visible from 14 states across the US including the southeastern states of Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia, and South Carolina. This total solar eclipse will be seen by the largest human population in modern times and will likely be the astronomical event of 2017. Many tens-of-thousands of eclipse chasers from around the world will descend upon the US for what will be for many “a-once-in-a lifetime” experience.
As a special service to its members, the Southeastern Planetarium Association (SEPA) has reserved a front row seat for this spectacular event. SEPA has reserved exclusively 120 lodge rooms, 4 lodge suites, 9 executive cottages and 4 log cabins at the Lake Barkley State Resort Park, near Cadiz, KY. This location is less than 22 km away from the point of greatest eclipse for those who want to maximize their eclipse experience. Please see the attached map. At the resort, one can expect 2 minutes and 33 seconds of totality (7 seconds less than the maximum eclipse time). The resort is near two major interstates, just in case predicted bad weather forces eclipse seekers to travel to a location with clearer skies. As any experienced eclipse chaser knows, the secret to seeing any total eclipse of the Sun is mobility. SEPA chose this location because in late August it has better than average skies and comfortable temperatures. Even without the total solar eclipse, Lake Barkley is a stunningly beautiful place to visit with a restaurant, conference center, golf course, indoor swimming pool, a marina, and lots of family oriented activities, as well as a nearby planetarium at Land-Between-the Lakes, KY. SEPA has reserved this lodging for three days, Saturday, August 19th, Sunday the 20th, and Monday the 21st (the day of the eclipse), so that members can prepare for the eclipse, see it, and then rest while sharing eclipse experiences with fellow SEPA members and friends. Currently, many hotels along the eclipse path are charging 4 and 5 times their normal daily rates during this period. And many are completely booked for these dates. We chose Lake Barkley State Resort, a state run institution, because they cannot price-gouge their customers. We hope that our SEPA members will appreciate the value of this service.

To be qualified for this special offer and to make your reservation, you must be a certified member of SEPA in good standing with your membership paid in full through 2017. You can pay your membership for 2016 and 2017 at a two-year discount rate of just $40.
To join SEPA and/or extend your current SEPA membership through 2017, please go to: http://www.sepadomes.org/membership/
Because of the limited number of available spaces, each member is only entitled to one room or one suite or one executive cottage or one cabin. The guaranteed eclipse rates per night are:
Lodge Room – $199.95 | Lodge Suite – $249.95 | Executive Cottage – $249.95 | Log Cabin – $249.95
(The above rates exclude applicable taxes and resort fees.)
As stated previously, these rates are a small fraction of what hotels are now charging along the eclipse path.

Telephone: 270-924-1135 ext. 524

The Great American Total Solar Eclipse alone should be enough reason to join SEPA, but it is far from the only reason. A membership also means:
- you shall receive one copy of each quarterly Journal and other regular publications of the Association
- you are eligible to attend the annual conference (SEPA 2016 is May 31-June 4 at the W.A. Gayle Planetarium in Montgomery, AL)
- you are invited to attend the business meeting held during the annual conference
- you are eligible for other benefits as determined by the SEPA Executive Council including program resources for your participating planetarium
- you will have camaraderie with some of the most passionate astronomy educators on Earth.
We expect these rooms to go fast, so please join SEPA today and make your reservations before all of the rooms, suites, cottages, and cabins are gone.
Thank you for your consideration.
